URGENT - Palestinian Children's Day

Shades of Anger, April 5, 2024

April 5, 2024

Today is Palestinian Children’s Day.* Our hearts are broken and we are angry as hell about the ongoing genocide and intentional starvation of children in Gaza!

About 14,000 children have been killed in Gaza since October 7th. Sit with that approximate number for a moment and contemplate that the situation is so dire that it’s hard to even get accurate numbers of those killed. We cannot possibly have anything more urgent to talk about as a worldwide community than the children of Palestine and the danger they are facing.

LEARN. Because we’ve been focusing on Palestinian children all week, we’re redirecting you back to our messages from the past few days.

Image: the head and shoulders of a young girl with brown hair, brown eyes and wearing a pink jacket, can be seen emerging from a crowd of arms of adults holding empty food bowls. The girl has a distressed expression on her face and is holding an empty blue plastic food container. The context of the photo shows that she is desperate for someone to fill her container with food or water.

NOTICE. What emotions do you feel when you think about the 14,000 children killed, and so many alive but in grave danger? Do you feel sadness, grief, pain or anger?

Mothers in Gaza are writing names on their children’s arms before dark in case they are separated in an attack. People who cannot empathize with the children of Gaza are mentally unwell. Do not believe the narrative that we, the empathetic and compassionate ones, are the ones who are unwell!

Paraphrased from Atif Choudhury of Diversity and Ability, here

ACT. Take every action you can think of today to raise awareness about the dire situation for children in Gaza. Talk to your friends and family members, post on social media,** make a sign and stand on a street corner and yell at cars passing by, call and write to your elected officials, call companies complicit in the genocide and tell them what you think of their business practices… Do anything and everything you can think of! Tap into your anger and outrage and use that energy for the good of Palestinian children.

SHARE. Forward this email to at least 10 friends, family members or colleagues, with an urgent plea to learn about the children of Palestine and act alongside you for their liberation.

ASK. Ask your friends what actions they are taking today for the sake of the Palestinian children. Reply to this email to tell us. We want to hear from you, and we want to share your ideas with our community!

In solidarity for Palestinian children,

Kay Coughlin, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective

P.S. Have you signed up for our weekly Shades of Anger online sessions to activate you to be an advocate for Palestine? It’s urgent - please sign up today - for the children!
