Wearing the Keffiyeh

Shades of Anger, April 21, 2024

April 21, 2024

Good morning! Always remember: YOU can take action to help liberate the people of Palestine, every day.

LEARN. Read about the Palestinian keffiyeh (also called the kufiya, shemag, or hatta) here, and in this infographic-focused art.

NOTICE. What did you know about the keffiyeh before today? What do you feel when you see someone wearing the keffiyeh? Can you feel the power of this symbol of resistance?

ACT. If you don’t own a keffiyeh, buy one and wear it! They are widely available online, but we suggest you purchase from a Palestinian business or family, such as here or here. Please do not buy from Amazon if you have other alternatives, since Amazon is on the “pressure target” list of the BDS (Boycott, Divest Saction) movement.

SHARE. Right now, forward this email to five people you know and invite them to purchase and wear a keffiyeh alongside you. We are all more powerful together!

ASK. What do you want to know about the keffiyeh or other symbols of Palestine? Reply to this email to let us know.

In solidarity for liberation for Palestine,

Kay Coughlin, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
