Palestinian deaths increase 100x over previous year

Shades of Anger, May 18, 2024

May 18, 2024

Good morning! It’s the week of May 15, the few days each year in which the world comes together to commemorate the Nakba (Arabic for “catastrophe”) that began in 1948. Grieve the horrifying increase in killing, and find a Nakba action near you to participate in this weekend.

LEARN. Read this article from Al Jazeera, comparing Palestinian deaths by Israeli action from May 16, 2022 - May 15, 2023 (323 killed) to May 16, 2023 - May 15, 2024 (36,173 killed, almost 15,000 of whom were children).

ACT. Call a friend to talk about what you’ve learned, what you know and don’t know about the Nakba, and see if there are any local actions you can attend together.

SHARE. Right now, send this email to 5 people to help them continue learning about the Nakba and the 100x increase in deaths in the year since the 2023 day of commemoration for the Nakba.

ASK. What are one or two things you’re going to remember about the 2024 commemoration of the Nakba? Please reply to this email (or, if you are reading this online, leave a comment below) to let us know.*

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
