Palestinian cost of Israeli government's brutal hostage rescue

Shades of Anger, June 15, 2024 post

June 15, 2024

Good morning. Remember that every day is a good day to show solidarity for Palestinian people.

LEARN. On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Israeli military conducted a highly publicized hostage rescue operation in Gaza, freeing four Israeli hostages. However, this mission resulted in over 270 deaths and more than 690 serious injuries to Palestinian citizens. Hospitals in Gaza reported scenes of unimaginable carnage, with children's body parts scattered in the streets. Read or listen to the article from NPR, here.

The Israeli military claimed they targeted militants who posed a threat, but Palestinian authorities and eyewitnesses described a scene of indiscriminate violence and destruction. This tragic event highlights the ongoing and devastating impact of the conflict on innocent civilians in Gaza, particularly those in refugee camps.

Editor’s note: in the article, NPR refers to the situation in Gaza as a “war,” but we here at Shades of Anger know it is actually a genocide.

NOTICE. Reflect on the reality behind the Israeli military's brutal actions, including letting yourself imagine the terror and trauma experienced by residents in the refugee camp. This incident is not an isolated case, but part of a broader pattern where military operations result in significant civilian casualties. The children who survive attacks are left with deep physical and emotional scars, and the community as a whole is plunged further into grief and despair.

ACT. Support reputable organizations working on the ground in Gaza, such as IMANA, Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, and the Palestine Red Crescent Society. Your donations can provide crucial medical supplies, food, and shelter to those in desperate need.

SHARE. Share this post with your friends, family, and social media networks. Encourage them to learn about the true cost of conflict in Gaza and to take action in support of Palestinian civilians. By spreading accurate information and supporting meaningful actions, we can collectively make a difference.

ASK. What steps will you take to support Palestinian civilians? How can you contribute to raising awareness and advocating for justice? Please reply to this email (or, if you are reading this online, leave a comment below) to let us know.*

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We chose the name of our collective to honor the poem, “Shades of Anger,” by Palestinian-Canadian poet Rafeef Ziadah. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
