Open call for Palestinian artists: Edinburgh Festival (deadline Feb 28 2025)
Shades of Anger, February 22, 2025
February 22, 2025
Good morning. Remember that every day is a good day to take art-filled and joyous action in support of Palestinian liberation.
LEARN. Read about the call for artists for “Edinburgh Festival Fringe” here. Note the submission deadline is February 28, 2025.
“Welcome to the Fringe Palestine is an initiative that took place in 2015 and invited Palestinian artists to fully participate in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in order to address the lack of Palestinian culture and expression at the biggest arts festival in the world. This year we will be bringing back the showcase and making sure that Palestine has a significant presence at this year’s festival! We want to share your work in a celebration of Palestinian art.”
NOTICE. What emotions do you feel when you think about artists gathering to celebrate the spirit of Palestinians? Do you feel joy, empowerment, rebelliousness, delight, or something else?
ACT. Share the call for artists with your friends and on social media!
SHARE. Forward this email to five people who could have connections to artists and/or Edinburgh.
ASK. What other forms of art and knowledge do you want to see us share in this newsletter? Please reply to this email (or, if you are reading this online, leave a comment below) to let us know.*
In solidarity for Palestinian liberation,
Kay Coughlin, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective
*You can also continue the conversation with us in the Speaking Up Network, a private social media platform co-created by Animah Kosai, one of the leaders of Shades of Anger.
Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We chose the name of our collective to honor the poem, “Shades of Anger,” by Palestinian-Canadian poet Rafeef Ziadah. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
