No Pride with Genocide

Shades of Anger, June 1, 2024 post

June 1, 2024

Good morning. You can take action today, for the Palestinian people, for liberation, and for justice.

LEARN. Read this short article from Queers in Palestine كويرز في فلسطين, to learn what “No Pride with Genocide” means. Then read this Liberatory Demand from Queers in Palestine كويرز في فلسطين.

“What do any of you know of my Palestine? Of the late night queer parties in Ramallah? Of raves held in biblically aged buildings? Of lesbians in hijabs, of gay men in hoop earrings, of trans Palestinians dancing with joyful abandon? We fear Israel first, before our families, always. We’re 100 times more likely to die at the hands of an Israeli gun or bomb than by western propagandized ideas of honour killings. I’ve seen White Christian Americans wish their child dead rather than gay. Israel is the one that weaponizes the homophobia that Queer people all over the world experience to justify murdering Palestinians of all kinds, young and old, Christian and Muslim, Queer and Straight. Queer as in Free Palestine”

NOTICE. What do you feel after reading the words and demands of queer Palestinians?

ACT. Find a local Queer / 2SLGBTQIA+ community organization who has not signed the Liberatory Demand yet. Reach out to them (forward them the article and Demand, or print it off and visit them in person). Ask them to sign onto the Liberatory Demand as part of their Pride Month activities.

SHARE. Right now, send this email to 3 people (maybe even in different cities/towns) and ask them to take the same action.

ASK. What other actions are you aware of at the intersections of Queer / Palestinian liberation? Please reply to this email (or, if you are reading this online, leave a comment below) to let us know.*

In solidarity for Palestinian liberation,

Rebecca Steckle, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective

*You can also continue the conversation with us in the Speaking Up Network, a private social media platform co-created by Animah Kosai, one of the leaders of Shades of Anger.

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We chose the name of our collective to honor the poem, “Shades of Anger,” by Palestinian-Canadian poet Rafeef Ziadah. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
