The Intentional, Genocidal Decimation of Gaza's Healthcare System

Shades of Anger, May 13, 2024 post

May 13, 2024

Good morning! Important reminder: we hold the power to speak up for and with Palestinian healthcare workers being targeted!

LEARN. Read this article from Qassam Muaddi and Tareq S Hajjaj at Mondoweiss, discussing the deliberate destruction of Gaza’s health system.

Dr. Bseiso was forced to amputate his niece’s leg at home.

“‘I decided to close my eyes and my heart, bite down on my pain, and do what could not be done.’ He performed the operation on their home’s dining table. On hand was a kitchen knife, a dish sponge, water, and soap.”

Muaddi & Hajjaj, quoting Dr. Bseiso, here

NOTICE. How did reading this feel? Were you surprised, angry, apathetic, skeptical while reading about the intentional destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system?

ACT. Write a letter/email to a local healthcare organization that has been silent. Ask them to speak up. If they are a children’s hospital, ask them about Gaza’s children. If they are a community health centre, ask them about Gaza’s entire displaced population. If you are financially resourced, you can donate to MedAid here.

SHARE. Right now, send this email to 3 people you know in the healthcare field and ask them to co-write a letter with you to their healthcare organization.

ASK. What else do you want to learn about Gaza’s healthcare system and medical professionals? Please reply to this email (or, if you are reading this online, leave a comment below) to let us know.*

We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
