How to Divest from Israeli interests (May 4, 2024 post)

Shades of Anger

May 4, 2024

Good morning! Important reminder: MONEY TALKS! YOU can divest from Israeli interests, and help others decide to do it, too.

LEARN. One of the biggest hurdles to doing something is figuring out what tools and skills you need to do it. AFSC.org has created this divestment toolkit to help every person and organization divest from Israeli interests.

Image description: a screenshot from the AFSC.org page, "Action Center for Corporate Accountability." The image shows a young woman kneeling to tend pots of flowers, and the words "divest from" and "invest in" are in chalk on the sidewalk. Click on the image for full description.

BONUS LEARN. Last week, the United Methodist Church became the first major Christian denomination to agree to divest from Israeli bonds. Read the article here.

NOTICE. What’s stopping you from divesting from Israeli interests? Does it seem too technical, or are you feeling any fear? What changes for you after you review these divestment resources?

ACT. Talk to your financial advisor about divesting from Israeli interests now. Talk about divesting with decision-makers you know in families, businesses and organizations.

SHARE. Right now, send this email to 3 people and 3 organizations (universities, businesses, cities and civic groups, community organizations, churches, etc.) who need to divest from Israeli interests because they don’t want to be complicit in supporting genocide.

ASK. What do you think of those who refuse to divest from Israeli interests, and instead choose to be complicit in genocide? Reply to this email to let us know.

In solidarity for liberation for Palestine,

Kay Coughlin, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
