Displaced Palestinian students & teachers explore rebuilding Gaza

Shades of Anger, June 4, 2024 post

June 4, 2024

Good morning. You can help ensure that the scholasticide committed in occupied Palestine will not stop the education of Palestinians!

LEARN. Read this webpage about the “SUMUD: Rebuilding Home, Street + Neighborhood” workshop, the first “studio” of the Gaza Global University (GGU).

Credit: Office of Displaced Designers. Image description: title that reads, “SUMUD: Rebuilding Home, Street + Neighbourhood” in white lettering on orange highlighting. The background is a black and white image of people visiting.

NOTICE. How does it feel to know that there is an organized movement to help Palestinian scholars continue to study, even when suffering a scholasticide? Do you feel excited, determined, curious, something else?

ACT. Do your part! If you can, give a generous donation to the fund to support, “displaced Palestinian students, academics and practitioners to build a brighter and more equitable future for Gaza.”

SHARE. Right now, send this email to 5 people in the design community (graphics, art, architecture, engineering, technology or curriculum) and ask them to help raise awareness about this infrastructure and education project.

ASK. Why do you think it’s so important to help Palestinians plan for infrastructure? Please reply to this email (or, if you are reading this online, leave a comment below) to let us know.*

In solidarity for Palestinian liberation,

Kay Coughlin, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective

P.S. Join us for a special Shades of Anger community session on divesting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5, noon EDT/New York time. Go to the top menu bar here and click on “Register for Community Sessions” to register.

*You can also continue the conversation with us in the Speaking Up Network, a private social media platform co-created by Animah Kosai, one of the leaders of Shades of Anger.

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We chose the name of our collective to honor the poem, “Shades of Anger,” by Palestinian-Canadian poet Rafeef Ziadah. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
