Community Session Video and Resources

Shades of Anger, April 25, 2024

April 25, 2024

Good morning! Here’s our recap of the resources we shared in the community session yesterday.

Always remember: YOU can take action to help liberate the people of Palestine, every day.

LEARN. Here are the resources we shared in our community meeting yesterday, April 24. (Register to attend the session next Wednesday, May 1, here.)

  • We do not ask for compensation for doing the Shades of Anger work, instead, this week we are asking for the white folks in our community to donate to aid the people of Palestine, here. If you are donating time/skills, please share this link and send us a “Learn” and “Act” resource that you would like to see included in future emails.

  • We will continue the conversation about speaking up at work in the “Speaking Up Network” community created by Shades of Anger leader Animah Kosai. Sign up here.

  • “Resources for Palestine” guide, created and updated frequently by Robin Divine, here. Robin is a Black woman creator and we ask you to pay her for her labor to create this excellent guide by buying her a coffee here or becoming a paid subscriber to her Substack, “Poverty Sucks,” here.

  • Waitlist for the “Critical Thinking in Violent Times” course facilitated by Shades of Anger leader Amena Chaudhry, here.

  • Website for the Freedom Flotilla here, as well as information to take action to stop the US pressure on Turkey that is currently preventing the flotilla from departing here. You can also follow folks on the flotilla, such as here and here.

  • Automatic email campaign for those in so-called canada to call on your municipality to pass a ceasefire resolution here (note this was written several months ago; consider updating the language).

NOTICE. The questions we asked in the session today were:

  1. What actions have you been taking?

  2. How have you been centering Palestinian (and Sudanese, Congolese, Haitan, and on) voices?

  3. What strategy will you try between now and next Wednesday to disrupt silence?

ACT. After reflecting on the session, the facilitators came up with a piece of homework for this week:

  1. Find places where you can organically/naturally bring up Palestine (e.g., when a friend, coworker, receptionist, grocery store clerk) asks you have you’ve been doing).

  2. Keep a list of where you try this over the coming week.

SHARE. Right now, forward this email to one colleague, one family member and one friend. Invite them to watch the video or review one of the resources we shared today and talk about it with you.

ASK. What roadblocks or barriers do you feel prevent you from speaking up or taking specific types of action? Reply to this email to let us know.

In solidarity for liberation for Palestine,

Rebecca Steckle, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
