Shades of Anger

May 2, 2024

Good morning! Always remember: YOU can take action to help liberate the people of Palestine, every day. And you don’t have to do it alone - and you shouldn’t try to, because it won’t work and it will wear you out.

LEARN. Here are the resources we shared in the online community session yesterday (register for the next one here).

Groups to consider getting involved in to take direct action for Palestine and join community locally/regionally:

  • AFSC Friday Action Hour (online, focused on Turtle Island/North America, English speakers)

  • Here4TheKids Thursday online community session

  • Palestinian Youth Movement (Canada/US) or the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (the Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign was mentioned in particular)

  • Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP)

  • Many trade unions have Palestinian solidarity movements, and you might find groups that are profession-focused (fields of mental health and law were the examples given)

  • CODEPINK

Book recommendations:

  • Decolonizing Therapy by Jennifer Mullan

  • Psychoanalysis Under Occupation: Practicing Resistance in Palestine, by Lara Sheehi & Stephen Sheehi

NOTICE. What are you feeling? In our community session yesterday, we acknowledged that many of us are weary but determined. We talked about how important it is to be a part of communities who will help you find ways to take brief breaks when you need to, and who will care about your wellbeing. We celebrated that many folks who have joined us in our sessions have been speaking up in new and important ways that are activating the people around them!

ACT. Support this family’s campaign, which was shared on the call by one of our community members.

SHARE. Right now, share this with five people who need to feel the power of supportive community.

ASK. As we move forward with our Shades of Anger collective work, we need to know what you find helpful and useful. Please reply to this email to give us feedback about what’s working for you, what you’ve learned, and how you have taken action because of this community.

In solidarity for liberation for Palestine,

Kay Coughlin, on behalf of the Shades of Anger collective

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
