Boycott & divest in commemoration of the Nakba
Shades of Anger, May 16, 2024
May 16, 2024
Good morning! It’s the week of May 15, the few days each year in which the world comes together to commemorate the Nakba (Arabic for “catastrophe”) that began in 1948. YOU can help educate and move folks to action for a free Palestine!
LEARN. Read through this helpful perspective from the BDS Movement on how each of us, as individuals and as communities, can use our economic power to help end the brutal occupation of Palestine.
Image credit: BDS Movement. Image description: a collection of photographs of Palestinian people holding keys to the homes they were forced to leave, and attending rallies waving Palestinian flags. The text on the image reads, “ #Nakba76 ; Demand action and accountability to end #GazaGenocide and #DismantleApartheid “ In the top right corner is the BDS logo.
NOTICE. For the next few moments, close your eyes and try to imagine what it would be like to be illegally forced out of your home. Whether you’re confronted by a group of angry, determined people who are trying to eject you from your home, or by a group of people who are heavily armed and appear to be with the military - what would the key to your home mean to you after that?
ACT. TODAY, commit to not do business any longer with at least one organization on the BDS list, starting here. If you don’t see any organization on the site that’s relevant to you, look up their information on Amazon (also the owner of Whole Foods and many other brands), Chevron, HP, Google, Puma and/or Sodastream.
SHARE. Right now, send this email to 3 people you know who are consumers and can help you make a difference by choosing NOT to spend money with organizations complicit in genocide.
ASK. What else do you need to learn about the boycott/divest/sanction work? Please reply to this email (or, if you are reading this online, leave a comment below) to let us know.*
In solidarity for Palestinian liberation,

Shades of Anger was created by a global collective of women to raise awareness and inspire action to free Palestine. We also believe in liberation for Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, and all places where systems of oppression are causing immense suffering and crushing the life out humans. We are led by women of the Global Majority/BIPOC. Shades of Anger is for everyone who wants to act for liberation and you can learn more about it here.
